Sharing photos has become a necessity in today’s digital world. It can be somewhat frustrating if you don’t know the ins and outs of photo sharing so here is my guide to help you.
iPhone
Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to sharing photos using iCloud on your iPhone (through iCloud Photos and shared albums):
📱 Before You Start
Open Settings
Tap your name → iCloud → Photos

Make sure:
iCloud Photos is turned ON

Shared Albums is turned ON

📤 Method 1: Share photos with specific people (Shared Album)
Open the Photos app

Tap the Share icon (square with arrow)

Scroll down and tap Add to Album

Tap New Shared Album (or choose an existing one)
Enter a name for the album → tap Next
Add people (using their Apple ID email or phone number)
Tap Create, then Post
👉 The selected people will get a notification and can view, like, and comment on the photos.
🔗 Method 2: Share using an iCloud link (quick & easy)
Open the Photos app
Select one or more photos
Tap the Share icon
Tap Copy iCloud Link
Wait a moment while the link is created
Paste and send the link via Messages, Mail, or any app
👉 Anyone with the link can view the photos (even without an Apple account).
👥 Method 3: Share an entire album
Open the Photos app
Tap Albums
Open the album you want to share
Tap the three dots (•••) in the top-right

⚙️ Helpful Tips
You can manage shared albums under Photos → Albums → Shared Albums
To stop sharing, open the album → tap People → toggle off Public Website or remove subscribers
Shared albums don’t count toward iCloud storage (but have some resolution limits)
If you want, I can compare iCloud sharing vs Google Photos so you know which is better for your situation.
sharing photos using text messaging (SMS/MMS or iMessage) on a smartphone:
📱 On iPhone (using Messages)
Open the Messages app
Tap the compose button (square with a pencil)
Enter a contact name or phone number
Tap the + icon (or camera/photo icon) next to the text field
Tap Photos
Select one or more photos
Tap Add (or Done)
Tap the Send button (arrow)
👉 Your photos will be sent as an iMessage (blue bubble) or MMS (green bubble), depending on the recipient.
🤖 On Android (using Messages)
Open your messaging app (commonly Google Messages)
Tap Start chat or +
Enter the contact’s name or number
Tap the attach icon (paperclip or +)
Choose Gallery or Photos
Select the photo(s) you want to send
Tap Send
📸 Tips for Sending Photos via Text
Image quality may be reduced when sent via standard text messaging
You may have a size limit (usually a few MB per message) most new phones take high resolution photos that are large files.
If photos won’t send, check your mobile data or Wi-Fi connection
For higher quality, consider sending an iCloud or Google Photos link instead
Many iPhones are set by default to store photos in HEIC format because they take up less space. HEIC files often have to be converted to a different file type before they can be used by other devices or applications.
Change HEIC to JPG on iPhones
Go to Settings
Scroll down to Camera
Choose Formats
Choose “Most Compatible”
Your iPhone will now take photos in JPG format. The file size will be a little larger, but the quality will be better and other devices and apps will be able to view and use the photos.
